More reflections on the global status of women

In May 2009, World Savvy published an edition of the World Savvy Monitor on the Global Status of Women. Shortly after publication, we co-hosted an event in San Francisco in partnership with the Global Fund for Women. Recently, the President and CEO of the Global Fund for Women, Kavita Nandini Ramdas, published an interesting review of Sheryl WuDunn and Nicholas Kristof’s book Half the Sky, which we featured on this blog a few months ago. According to Ramdas, “what the book does effectively [is] to make the foreign terrain of women’s rights accessible to an average American.” However, she is also careful to highlight some important shortcomings of the book, most notably that  “the book may frustrate readers seeking deeper analyses of the complex factors that contribute to extreme gender discrimination.” I encourage readers looking for this deeper analysis to check out the World Savvy Monitor edition on the Global Status of Women and the Fall 2009 update to the edition.
